Wood Mallet - Maple
This is a hand turned (or hand made) mallet made of two different types of Maple wood glued together. The two woods are curly maple and ambrosia maple. They were glued together using Titebond II wood glue, which is food safe... just in case you decide to smash some food. :-) I used General Finishes' Arm-R-Seal as a finish.
The mallet is about 11 3/4" long with the mallet end being about 3 3/4" in diameter. The handle is a comfortable 5" long from the base of the mallet to the end knob. The mallet is slightly less than 5" long.
Being made of hardwood, this mallet was made to work! It's beautiful, but don't be afraid to hit something with it! But, like anything made of wood, it has its limits. Wood mallets are great for things like carving and light chisel work, which involve medium to light taps--nothing ridiculous. If you treat this mallet well, though, it will last you decades!
